Drone Roof Inspection Services

A drone roof inspection gives you a clear, aerial view of roof condition without anyone climbing a ladder or walking on tile. Using a drone flown by an FAA Part 107 certified pilot, Cedrus Property Inspections documents the roof's visible condition with high-resolution photos and video, included with every full home inspection and also available as a standalone service.

Why a drone roof inspection

Some roofs are too steep, too fragile, or too high to safely walk. A drone lets us examine the visible roof planes, including areas a ground-level or ladder inspection would miss, all without the risk of a technician on the roof or the risk of foot traffic damaging tile or shingles.

What's included

  • Aerial photo and video documentation of the primary roof structure

  • A visual assessment of wear patterns, missing or displaced material, and visible damage

  • A written summary noting observed conditions in clear, objective language

  • Optional 2D orthomosaic map and 3D roof model, available as add-ons

What's not included

  • Physical roof access. This is a visual, aerial assessment only, not a walked inspection.

  • Secondary structures such as detached garages, carports, and sheds, available as an add-on

  • A formal roof certification. Cedrus does not hold a C-39 contractor license, and a drone inspection is not a substitute for one under California law

Why This Matters Now

California homeowners insurance carriers increasingly use satellite and aerial imagery in underwriting, and older roofs are drawing extra scrutiny. A current drone inspection gives you documented, dated evidence of roof condition, useful whether you're preparing to sell, renewing a policy, or simply want a clear record before storm season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a drone inspection replace a full home inspection?
No. On its own, a drone inspection is a focused look at the roof. Every full home inspection already includes a drone roof inspection, so there's no need to book both.

Can a drone inspection certify my roof for insurance purposes?
No. Cedrus does not hold a C-39 contractor license, and a drone inspection is not a certification. It provides documented visual evidence of condition, which you can share with your insurer or roofing contractor as they require.

What roof types can be inspected this way?
Most residential roof types can be assessed aerially, including tile, shingle, and flat roofs. Some conditions, like heavy tree cover or restricted airspace, may limit what's possible on a given property.

How long does a drone inspection take?
Typically less than an hour on site, with the report delivered within 24 hours.

Are detached structures included?
Not by default. Carports, detached garages, and sheds can be added as part of the booking.
